Musicals are the Superior Adaptation Format: Change My Mind

Anyone who knows me might know that for a while, I’ve been holding up The Little Mermaid musical as the pinnacle adaptation that the live action Disney movies should try to emulate when remaking movies.

But it occurred to me that musicals being superior adaptations is something that is often true outside of The Little Mermaid, and outside of Disney. Sure, there are outliers, but in many cases, musicals show themselves to be the best form of adaptation.

And I’m going to prove it.

Every Thursday (or at least I hope it’s going to be every Thursday) for the next several weeks I’m going to be breaking down a musical that was adapted from something (whether that be books, movies, or something else) and exploring how and why it’s a good adaptation.

Keep an eye out if you like musicals, pop culture analysis, or if you love (or hate) 80’s movies. And don’t forget to let me know if there’s a musical adaptation you want to see me dig into.

See you next Thursday.
